During a week where we are all inspired to focus on the things we're thankful for, I am reminded of the great event Theory House hosted in Roanoke, VA earlier this month for our client, Food Lion. Titled, the Frugal Cook-Off, the event challenges local bloggers to cook a meal for 4, for less than $15, in less than 45 minutes. A tall task when the pantry items availble to them and their star protein are a surprise.
While we host these events throughout the year, it seems all the more relevant when the holidays are approaching and everyone is working to make a dollar go as far as we can. Our particpants and winners take home Food Lion gift cards, one for themselves and one to give away to an avid follower of their blog.
The local food bank, Feeding America, Southwest Virginia, attended the event and all of the leftover pantry items were donated to them afterwards. In true holiday fashion, this act of giving inspired the bloggers to give away their extra gift card to not only a reader but perhaps a person who could really use it. One of our winning bloggers donated her gift card back to the food bank in order to provide turkeys to as many as 15 families for this week's festivities.
Living in the shopper marketing agency world, we think about the end consumer, shoopper or guest all day everyday, but we don't get to interact with them as frequently. This event was such a great opportunity to spend time with people who take time out of their day to share cooking, parenting and lifestyle tips with the web world in the hopes they may help someone somehwere in the world. This is a great inspriation to keep in mind any day but especially as the holidays are upon us!
I would like to send out a special thanks to all of our participating judges as well as The Fork in the City restaurant who hosted our event. Please visit the blogger websites and learn more about our lovely group from Roanoke's Food Lion Frugal Cook-Off!
Happy Holidays!
